AS HI-TEC AS FISHING LINE GETS

FINS is well-known for high-tech fishing lines, not a difficult task when you’re a recognised expert in manufacturing composite materials. Not only do they manufacture the composite shafts on Minn Kota motors, a product that carries an unheard-of lifetime guarantee, FINS is also responsible for numerous industry-leading technical innovations. These include a treatment for adding permanent colour to Spectra fibres and Polymer Reinforced Technology (PRT), the process behind FINS superior performance. FINS expertise in braided fishing line and commitment to technology come together to create the best fishing line on the market.

THE RISE OF THE SUPERLINES

The introduction of hi-tech fibres in the fishing industry was a response by manufacturers to monofilaments shortcomings. Modern hi-tech lines, or superlines, consist of intertwined strands of high-strength, low-stretch man-made fibres – creating incredibly thin lines that are 10 times stronger than steel. When compared to monofilament, superlines provide superior strength, a smaller diameter and increased sensitivity.

SPECTRA vs DYNEEMA

Spectra and Dyneema are both yarns comprised of bundles of micro-filaments, the Dyneema filaments are smaller in diameter than the Spectra filaments and are therefore quicker to wear and break, resulting in “fuzzy line”. The photo below is of 2 different 50 lb raw (uncoated, uncoloured) braids; one Spectra and the other Dyneema. These braids were tested with the Hexbar Abrasion test where equal weights were hung on the braids and then cycled 2000 times over a hexagonal piece of steel. This test was originally developed by     Honeywell to test the abrasion tolerance of auto seat belts made of woven polyester. This closely replicates the cast and retrieve wear that occurs in fishing with the lines passing over the guide eyes when under tension.

ALAN PHILISKIRK ON FINS BRAID

Alan (Fish) Philliskirk runs a premier Cape York guiding operation in Weipa operating 4 purpose built boats that can work up to 200 days per year. This type of operation chasing all the tropical bruisers demands the best tackle available and the best braid line on the market.

I have been spooling all of our reels including spin reels, overhead reels, and fly reels with “Fins PRT braid” for the past 10 years now, and during this time my guides and I have used nothing else, as “Fins braid” is consistently dependable and never lets you down.
Whether casting a metal jig at tuna or attempting to slow down the blistering run of a huge GT or Spanish mackerel you can have complete confidence in “Fins Braid”.
If it is consistency of line strength, knot strength or just value for money “Fins PRT braid ticks all those boxes, and will be on my reels for some time to come!
